Star Witness team oozing Royal Ascot confidence
Star Witness, one of Australia's leading sprinters, is expected to go very close indeed to continuing the stunning record of his compatriots when contesting Tuesday's Group 1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, writes Elliot Slater.
Trainer Danny O'Brien admits that he has been gearing his four-year-old's training around the Ascot dash for the last 12 months and is convinced he has his charge in the best possible form and ready to follow in the illustrious hoof prints of previous Aussie speed merchants Choisir, Takeover Target, Miss Andretti and Scenic Blast, who all carried off the coveted sprinting prize to the southern hemisphere in recent years. Those following the 2011 Royal Ascot betting tips have every reason to be excited about his chances.
O'Brien admits to being tremendously excited at seeing his dual Group 1 winner take on the cream of European and international sprinters having for the last year been chasing the shadow of the extraordinary Australian filly Black Caviar, who remains unbeaten in a career that is now taking on near legendary proportions. With Black Caviar's connections having decided to wait until next year to come to Royal Ascot O'Brien believes a window of opportunity has been granted Star Witness and he intends to have his horse absolutely spot on to be ready to seize the chance offered him. Anyone with an Ascot free bet will have to give some serious thought to placing it on him.
The Starcraft colt has reportedly settled in very well at Newmarket after his journey from 'Down Under' and O'Brien admits he couldn't have been more impressed with the facilities on offer and the kindness shown him and his team since they landed in England. Should Start Witness run up to expectations on Tuesday then there is every chance that he will bid for the six furlong Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes on the final day of the five-day fixture.
Star Witness is currently the 9/2 favourite for the King's Stand Stakes and is a best priced 8/1 for the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
