Excitement is building for opening day at Sha Tin Racecourse here in Hong Kong on Sunday, September 3rd.

The season will kick off with a traditional ceremony, where the Hon Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, HKSAR Chief Executive will dot the lion's eyes and then strike the lucky gong.

Fans entering the racecourse on this day will also have a chance to strike the lucky gongs, located at the main entrances to Sha Tin Racecourse. Racing fans will also receive a 2017 - 2018 racing calendar as a free gift.

HK$60 million in jackpots are waiting to be won on opening day. There will be a 10 race card on this opening day, with the feature being the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup, Class 1 run at 1200m.

New merchandise will be on offer in the gift shops at the racecourse, including a limited edition horse of the year pin set, featuring past champions such as Fairy King Prawn, Silent Witness, Good Ba Ba, Viva Pataca, Ambitious Dragon, Able Friend, Werther, Rapper Dragon and more.
